How the Octopus referral link works

The only thing that matters is opening my link before you start your quote. Everything after that happens automatically.

What's the Octopus referral code?

My code is sunny-lane-689, but online you don't need to type it. Octopus referrals work as a link: click any "Start my Octopus quote" button on this page and the referral is remembered for you. If you'd rather sign up by phone, quote the code to the Octopus team.

Who pays what?

Octopus pays the £50 as credit on your new energy account. The extra £25 comes from me personally, out of my own £50 referral reward. Octopus doesn't pay or guarantee the £25.

When will the £50 Octopus credit arrive?

Octopus adds it automatically once your supply has started and your first monthly Direct Debit has been taken. That usually takes about four weeks, longer if your old supplier is slow to release you. If it's taking longer, see what to do if your referral credit is missing.

When will I get the £25 from you?

Within 5 working days of my matching referral credit showing in my Octopus account, which happens at the same time as yours. Submit the claim form any time after you switch and I'll pay as soon as it lands.

I already switched without using the link. Can I still get it?

Octopus says that if you joined directly on its website and forgot the link, you can contact them with the referral code and they can add it to both accounts. If they do, you can still claim the £25.

Does it work if I switch through a comparison or cashback site?

No. Octopus only pays referral credit when you sign up directly on its website through a referral link. If you go through a price comparison or cashback site, the referral is lost, and so is the £25 from me.

I was an Octopus or Bulb customer before. Am I eligible?

Only if you haven't been an Octopus customer, including its other brands such as Bulb, in the last 12 months. The referral is for new customers.

Does it work with a prepayment meter?

Yes. Sign up through the link, then ask Octopus to add the referral credit to your meter or send it as a top-up. My £25 works the same way.

Can I refer a business?

Yes. Octopus pays £75 each when a business switches using a referral link. My £25 top-up is for home switches only.

Is the £50 credit cash?

It's credit on your Octopus account that comes off your energy bills. The £25 from me is real money, paid by PayPal, bank transfer or as an Amazon gift card.

What happens to the details I send?

I only use them to match your switch to my referral credit and pay you. They're stored on this site's own server, never shared or sold, and deleted 12 months after your claim.
